Doctor killed in broad daylight, ‘sushashan’ feels tremor

INMATES OF GOPALGANJ JAIL KILL DOCTOR
MURDER FOR FAKE MEDICAL CERTIFICATE

CM ORDERS INQUIRY BY HOME SECY

Doctor Budhdeo Singh
May 30, 2011, Gopalganj: In a brutal incident in Gopalganj town of Bihar, jail inmates killed a doctor who refused to issue them a fake certificate. Dr Budhadeo Singh, brother of ex-MP  Satyadeo Singh was  killed in the jail when he went there to treat some ailing prisoners. Upon entering the jail, he was pushed down the stairs and  mercilessly beaten up by a gang of prisoners. He died on the way to hospital.

Sources said that murder charge was laid to Ranjan Yadav who was recently given a life term in a kidnapping case. Ranjan Yadav wanted a fake medical certificate from the doctor to avoid his shifting to another jail. When Dr Singh refused to do so, he was killed by prisoners.

"I saw the doctor bleeding. The doctor went inside the jail as he was told someone was ill. I wasn't on duty," said Kundan Dev, Police Inspector, Gopalganj.

An FIR has been registered against Ranjan Yadav and six other inmates, police said.

Taking serious note of the incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today ordered a high-level probe.
"It is a shocking incident... we won't tolerate it," Kumar said in Patna.

Opposition parties have condemned this murder and criticized state government for not controlling crimes.  This is a big jolt for Nitish Kumar’s ‘sushashan’ which came to power on promise of law and order and good governance. So far, the government seems to have greater control over the law and order situation but such incidents certainly put a question mark over the affairs of the state.
