All three LJP MLCs dump Paswan, join JD(U)

July 25, 2011: Patna: In a severe jolt to Ram Vilas Paswan, all three LJP MLCs on Monday joined the JD (U). At the latter's state office, the three elders claimed it was merger of the LJP legislature party in the council with JD (U).

State JD (U) president Vashisht Narayan Singh welcomed Rajendra Rai, Israel Rayeen and Raju Yadav into the party. The trio earlier met chief minister Nitish Kumar at his residence and announced their decision to join JD (U).

Bihar legislative council chairman Tarakant Jha has also recognized the three MLCs as members of JD (U) in the House. Party chief Singh said they would be given responsibilities to expand and strengthen the party base in their respective areas.

This is the second time that LJP has faced merger with JD (U) in the council. Earlier in 2009, soon after the Lok Sabha polls, LJP's only MLC Sanjay Singh had crossed the floor and announced the party's merger with the ruling party. Singh, who was once a close confidant of Paswan, is now spokesman of JD (U).

Also, the JMM's lone MLA Sunit Kumar Singh, who had joined JD (U) last week, came to the party office to take membership of the party. Singh, son of agriculture minister Narendra Singh, won Chakai seat on JMM symbol, defeating the BJP's sitting member Faguni Prasad Yadav. Minister's another son Ajay Pratap Singh is also a JD (U) MLA from Jamui.
