Nitish inaugurates Maha-Setu on Ganga

NEW BRIDGE TO CONNECT SAMASTIPUR WITH BAKHTIYARUR
WILL EASE TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON GANDHI SETU & RAJENDRA BRIDGE
June 8, 2011, Samastipur: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday inaugurated the Maha Setu project over river Ganga at a function in Samastipur district. The bridge would connect Samastipur to Bakhtiyarpur near the National Highway to Jharkhand. The Chief Minister also announced linking of this bridge with Darbhanga by a four-lane expressway.

The Maha Setu would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,600 crore on a public-private partnership model. A Hyderabad-based private company, Nav Yug Construction, would invest Rs 900 crore, the Union government would provide Rs 277 crore, while the state government the rest amount.

The bridge will be named after Karpuri Thakur.

The chief minister said the Maha Setu project would be started within six months and it would be completed by 2015. The state government would give compensation to the landowner.
