Stray incidents claim 4 lives; poll violence, suicide & murder included

May 23, 2011, Patna: A teenage girl committed suicide in Patna's Kankarbagh area on Sunday. The exact reason of the incident is yet to be ascertained. Investigation is underway amid the speculation that it may be the case of a failed love affair.

Meanwhile election related violence continued abated with a person being shot died at Kuseshwarsthan in Darbhanga district after alleged irregularities in the Panchayat poll counting. It is said that police opened fire to a panchayat candidate supporter who were violently protesting irregularities in the counting. Poll counting for Panchayat elections are going on in various parts of the state.

In an incident in northern district of Sitamarhi a woman was killed by her husband in what seems to be a case of either dowry or illicit relationship.

In yet another incident a 35-year-old woman hanged herself in her home in Gaya district of Bihar. Meera Devi, a two time panchayat chief of Kormathu village, committed suicide on Sunday after she failed to retain her post. It is the second such case in Bihar when a candidate has committed suicide. On April 29 Rajendra Mahto who was contesting the panchayat polls committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at his village under Baghauni panchayat in Bihar's Samastipur district.
